About the Role

BEC Arabia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer (QS) to join our dynamic Construction team in Makkah. As a key member of our engineering division, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing mechanical systems, ensuring cost-effective project execution, and maintaining the highest quality standards. This role is integral to delivering large-scale, complex projects that align with Saudi Vision 2030's transformative goals.

In this position, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, civil engineers, and project managers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems within overall project designs. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include quantity surveying, cost estimation, contract management, and technical oversight of mechanical installations. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the quantity surveying process for mechanical systems, including cost estimation, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare detailed bills of quantities (BOQ) and ensure alignment with project specifications and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with design and engineering teams to validate mechanical system designs and ensure constructability.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure compliance with Saudi Building Code (SBC), ARAMCO standards, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Manage contracts and subcontracts related to mechanical works, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to agreed terms.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify the quality and accuracy of mechanical installations.
  • Develop and maintain cost control systems to track project expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, including OSHA, NEBOSH, and ISO 45001, during all phases of mechanical work.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to source materials and equipment that meet project specifications and budget constraints.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and quantity surveyors within the team.
  • Prepare and present detailed project reports to stakeholders, including clients and senior management.
  • Support the adoption of digital construction tools, such as BIM, for enhanced project efficiency and accuracy.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering and quantity surveying within the construction industry.
  • Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) registration or eligibility for registration.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6, AutoCAD, and BIM tools such as Revit.
  • Strong knowledge of Saudi Building Code (SBC), ARAMCO standards, and other relevant regulations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cost estimation, BOQ preparation, and contract management.
  • Familiarity with safety standards, including OSHA, NEBOSH, and ISO 45001.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Certification in Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent.
  • Experience working on mega-projects or Saudi Vision 2030 initiatives.
  • Knowledge of green building standards such as LEED, Estidama, or Mostadam.
  • Proficiency in advanced cost management software like CostX or PlanSwift.

Working Conditions

  • Based in Makkah, with occasional travel to project sites across the Kingdom.
  • Primarily site-based, requiring regular interaction with construction teams and contractors.
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions, including high temperatures typical of the Saudi climate.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided and mandatory on-site.
  • Standard workweek with potential for extended hours during critical project phases.
